David Lee Roth @ 6am

The Official David Lee Roth Website

So it’s REALLY OFFICIAL Howard is out and David is in! I dunno if I can take David Lee Roth on a daily basis. I mean yeah I grew up loving the guy and loving Van Halen and think he is great as a guest, but can he hold down the fort for 4 hours a day 7 days a week all year long? Well if his debut show is any indication, NO! Ok i was intrigued for about 15 mins but after that i am zoning out 🙁 He just went off at 9:57 with defiantly no fireworks! He did have his uncle on, Manny Roth who did many monumental things in NYC and he was a little bit interesting, but as a whole it was pretty boring. i missed the first 2 hours but it appears that he does have a bunch of people in the studio, although he barely went to them. I did hear them laugh and make some noises, but that was about it. He also mentioned that he probably won’t have any guests for the first 2 weeks! What the hell! After David’s show they had these other 2 guys on that were 10 times WORSE! With these 2 less then stellar shows, I am looking forward to Howard even MORE now! I am guessing they just sold another Million or so Sirius Radios 🙂 O well, goodbye KRock 🙁

THE LAST OF A DYING BREED

Howard Stern.com: “THE LAST OF A DYING BREED”

If you know me, one thing you will know is that I am a HUGE Howard Stern Fan! I have been a die hard fan since June 1989, right out of of High School. I remember tuning into K Rock and hearing Howard interview the Go Go’s We’ll I have been hooked since! So hooked I would listen to the entire show for 16 years! I usually taped the show and listened to it on the road. I used to wear out tape decks, taped the show on VHS and eventually went to the Mini Disc then finally to MP3’s and Ipods. A lot has changed in the past 16 years and I really don’t get to listen to entire shows any more. 🙁

Howards last show was great. Who could ask for anything more then what he did! It was really great listening back to all the memories and thinking back to all the good times I have had over the years with the show! Sure it not the end yet, but the way I will hear Howard, will be a new experience. I will never forget talking like Jackie all those years! Warm Beer, Cold Beeer Beeeeeeeeerrrrrrr. I had forgoten how much I missed him until he came in on Thursday and it was GREAT hearing him and I would hope there is a spot in Howards heart and a spot on Sirius for him.

I had basically met all of the people on the show, with the exception of Howard himself over the years. I had met Stuttering John at a few of his gigs and some personal appearaces and thought he was a good guy. I had met Fred in South River at a gig. He was a lil strange and he kind of blew us off, but he was still a pretty cool guy. I had met Robin at her book signing up north, Gary Babba Booey on the street and at the station when I interviewed for an internship and finally I had met Jackie at Club Bene’ and later on did a web cast at Jokeland in Long Island and shared a beer with him. All those experiences hold a place in my heart over the years and I will never forget them.

I don’t think I will forget Howard’s last day on FM radio. I had planned on going into the city for my wife’s take your child to work day anyway (check out my photos on the Moblog). It was monsooning outside and there was a threat of a transit strike that came today actually. I wound up the rain stopped and it became like 40 degrees warmer at night. It was an amazing thing that against all odds, the final days event went smooth. I watched a lot of the days events over Yahoo and was pretty impressed. I wasn’t TOO bummed that I wasn’t there, but enjoyed the day anyway. I thought everyone’s speech’s were great and it really did home what Howard said about himself, he really is THE LAST OF A DYING BREED.

New Disney-Pixar Deal Likely

IGN: New Disney-Pixar Deal Likely: “New Disney-Pixar Deal Likely
Jobs wants to stay at the House of Mouse.
by IGN FilmForce

November 9, 2005 – Nearly two years after Pixar topper Steve Jobs first announced that the CG animation studio was parting ways with Walt Disney Pictures, the entities appear poised to kiss and make up. During a recent third-quarter earnings conference call, Jobs was hopeful about renewing relations with the House of Mouse.
‘We are in deep discussions with Disney,’ he said, noting that that they’d like to have a new distribution deal in place as soon as possible. ‘It’s worth the few extra months of effort if there is a chance of continuing our relationship with Disney and our discussions right now are very productive,’ said Jobs.

That’s a completely different tune than the Pixar CEO was singing back in early 2004 when then-Disney honcho Michael Eisner refused to meet the terms demanded by Jobs for a new Pixar distribution agreement. Pixar reportedly wanted 100% of the box office take on future films, a modest distribution fee and the lion’s share of ancillary revenue. Eisner balked.
Things have warmed between the companies since Eisner’s departure and serious talks restarted after his successor Robert Iger was put in place.

The box office success of Chicken Little may give Disney a little better footing, proving that they’re not completely hosed without Pixar’s brand of computer-animated movie magic. But Pixar isn’t in a bad way either, the studio’s earnings rose 22 percent last quarter on robust home video sales of prior releases like Finding Nemo and The Incredibles.”

THANK GOD hehe

History
Pixar is led by Steve Jobs (co-founder of Apple Computer) as its chairman and CEO. The company started as a division of Lucasfilm. It was purchased by Jobs for US$10 million in 1986, establishing itself as an independent company. Given the company’s later successes, Lucasfilm’s sale was described by the magazine Total Film in 2004 as the 6th “dumbest decision in movie history”.
Jobs co-founded the newly independent company with Dr. Edwin E. Catmull, who still remains a member of the executive team. John Lasseter —a two-time Academy Award-winning director and animator— oversees all of the company’s projects as Executive Vice President of the Creative Department. Other notable members of the executive team are Sarah McArthur (Executive Vice President of Production), Simon Bax (Executive Vice President and chief financial officer), and Lois Scali (Executive Vice President and General Counsel).

Pixar’s initial focus was as a high-end hardware company- They produced a visual processing computer, which primarily sold to government agencies and the medical community. The machine required a computer built by Sun Microsystems to operate. While the machine never sold well, John Lasseter began creating short animations to show at SIGGRAPH to demonstrate the power of the system. These animations, such as Luxo Jr. impressed audiences at the show because they demonstrated not simply a raw rendering, but personality.

As poor sales of Pixar’s computers threatened to put the company out of business, Lasseter’s animation department began selling commercials to outside companies. After substantial cuts to most of the computer department, Pixar began it’s current life by making a $26,000,000 deal with Disney, to produce Toy Story.

Disney & Pixar
All of Pixar’s major features thus far have been made in collaboration with Walt Disney Pictures; Pixar handles all of the production aspects whereas Disney handles all distribution aspects. In 1997, after the release of their initial film, Toy Story, both companies signed a 10-year, 5-picture deal, in which the two companies split production costs and profits — with Disney receiving 12.5% of the revenues and the rights to the films. The arrangement has been very profitable for both companies, as Pixar films have been far more successful than Disney’s own animated films. Pixar’s five feature films have grossed more than $2.5 billion, making it, picture for picture, the most successful movie house of all time. However, Disney’s CEO, Michael Eisner, and Jobs did not get along. Because of personal and business disagreements, the relationship will end in 2006 with the movie Cars being the last joint venture between the two companies.

The two companies attempted to reach a new agreement in early 2004. For the new deal, Pixar only wanted to pay Disney a distribution fee with no other profit sharing or rights to the properties. This was unacceptable to Disney, but Pixar refused any concessions. Pixar is currently looking for a new company to distribute its films, and many other firms are eager suitors. Disney retains the rights to the earlier films and can make sequels to them. It has begun production of Toy Story 3, without Pixar’s involvement.

Feature films
Toy Story (1995)
A Bug’s Life (1998)
Toy Story 2 (1999) (Originally slated as a direct-to-video film, Disney concluded this film did not count towards the ‘5 picture’ contract when it was released in theatres)
Monsters Inc. (2001)
Finding Nemo (2003, Academy Award winner 2004)
The Incredibles (2004)
Cars (scheduled for release in 2006)
Ratatouille (scheduled for release in 2006)
Ray Gun (rumored) (possible release in 2007)

Short films (“Shorts”)
The Adventures of André and Wally B. (1984, Lucasfilm, prior to creation of Pixar)
Luxo Jr. (1986, became the source of today’s Pixar logo)
Red’s Dream (1987)
Tin Toy (1988, Academy Award winner 1988))
Knick knack (1989)
Geri’s Game (1997, Academy Award winner 1997))
For the Birds (2000, Academy Award winner 2001)
Mike’s New Car, (2002, based on characters in Monsters, Inc.)

Meet the Robinsons

Why do I torture myself? Just when one wait is over, I discover another new one 🙂 I just stumbled apon Disney’s next new movie, Meet The Robinsons! Looks Killer!

– Disney has given the world its first look at their new animated feature Meet the Robinsons. The picture above shows the animated cast of the film, based on William Joyce’s beloved 1990 book A Day with Wilbur Robinson. In the tale, Wilbur is a boy genius who creates a fantastic Jack Kirby-esque machine which ends up unlocking time, allowing Wilbur to visit with a future whose survival depends on him.

The Sky Is Falling, The Sky Is Falling!

I hope to see it over the weekend. It go some so so reviews, so we will see how it does. This is Disney’s first REAL computer animated movie without Pixar, so the pressure is on! I believe Dinosaur was also computer animated, but it didn’t do so hot 🙂

The New iPod with video & PJ’s King Kong

I got my lil mitts on the latest 5th generation ipod with video! I must admit, it is really really nice! Its a lot smaller than I thought it was going to be and everything I expected. The screen is real nice in color and very smooth interface! I am totally not used to for one thing color and photos let alone streaming video on an ipod! They had 2 videos on the ipods to demo. A preview of the new movie Curious George and the trailer for King Kong! The video played real smooth and it sounded amazing on those Bose headphones they always push 🙂 It is a MUST HAVE gift for me this Christmas and I am looking forward to getting the 60 gig 🙂 I am actually GLAD I did not buy the ipod nano and held out for this bad boy!

Speaking of King Kong, you MUST go to the Apple site and check out the new 2 plus minute, making of video they have on there! The movie looks AMAZING and I am really looking forward to it!

Insanely Twisted Shadow Puppets

Very Cool Animation! Check it out!

– The ever-innovative Michel Gagné has posted the twelve INSANELY TWISTED SHADOW PUPPETS interstitials and bumpers that he created for Nickelodeon’s “Halloween Shriekin Weekend.” They are short but ingenious pieces of Flash animation. Michel’s kinetic, in-your-face style of timing and animation creates an energetic mood unlike any other animated film I’ve seen recently. As part of his contract with MTV, Michel wisely negotiated that he be allowed to show the unedited spots on his website, and these “Director’s Cuts” versions currently on his site differ significantly from what aired on Nick.

Update :

Ok, so we’re still having issues, but here’s what we’ve got so far. Apparently there’s a Salling Clicker replacement for the Mac—a Mac remote, as it were. It’s called FrontRow. It’s a Bluetooth device, and apparently looks a lot like a shuffle.

We also have word of a new, flatter iMac with built-in iSight. This guy will have a larger drive, FrontRow, and will cost the same as the current 17-inch model—ships today.

The new iMac lineup prices are as follows: $1299 US for the 1.5GHz 17-incher, $1799 US for the 2.1GHz 20-incher.

New iPod announced! The new iPod, as speculated, features video capabilities and the wider display, but it’s still a music-first device.

The device will feature a 2.5-inch display, QVGA resolution (320 x 240), and will MPEG-4 h.264 (natch), and presumably Quicktime.

The new iPod will be 30% thinner than the current 20GB iPod (making it 0.44-inches thick—say wha?), and will feature a 60GB version (which should be thinner than the current 0.63-inch thick 20GB iPod), and editions of both in black.

The 20GB should go for $299, and the 60GB for $399. They’ll be shipping next week.

What’s the device named, you ask? The iPod. That’s it, just The iPod. Well spare you the Prince jokes. The iPod will have TV out.

Stevie has iTunes 6.0 up there—only about a month after introducing iTunes 5.0.

iTunes 6.0 will also feature video and the iTunes Music Store will feature Fairplay DRMed video downloads (big surprise, right?).

At launch over 2,000 music videos will be made available at a cost of $1.99 apiece. You can download iTunes 6.0 starting today.

Oh, and one more thing…

It’s not only music videos you can buy. No, Apple’s set up to allow you to purchase TV shows for $1.99 apiece. Get Desperate Housewives or four other ABC shows premiering on iTunes at two bucks an ep. Videos are native QVGA resolution.

Update 2 :

It does indeed look awesome and it has gotten great reviews and is officially on my Christmas List 🙂

Nick Fuz @ 3 Months

My boy is better than ever and getting big to boot! He is awesome and was in a great mood today 🙂 Everything is great! Going to the second to last Mets game tomorrow night! Spider-Man 3 Villains: it’s Official

– From Cinematical

Thomas Haden Church, once rumored to be playing Chameleon in Spider-Man 3, will in fact play Sandman, and Topher Grace will be Venom. Since this news comes to us straight from the loose lips of Kirsten Dunst herself (who is wisely riding this money train as long as she can), I think we can put the rumor mill to bed on this one.

For those of you who, like me, are sadly unfamiliar with all of Spidey’s enemies, Sandman is a career criminal whose irradiated body can turn into a sand-like substance. Sand-like, huh? I was hoping he just had, like, a really abrasive personality, or something. Damn. Venon, however, is a bit more complicated. As far as I can tell, he’s (it’s?) some sort of alien thing that takes over bodies. When he moves into the body of Eddie Brock, a guy who really, really hates Spiderman already, Venom makes him stronger and more pissed off, creating a supervillain that looks like a black-and-white version of Spider-Man with a wicked smile. Well that sounds sort of awesome. It will be released in Spring 2007.

Jurrasic Park 4 !

Further confirmation today of the rumors mentioned here in April, that Jurassic Park IV is really on the way. If nothing else, Michael Crichton is excited, since no matter what happens to them he still gets paid for creating the characters. So far, both Sam Neill and Vince Vaughn are thought to be coming back along, probably, with a dinosaur or two.

– Ok, I even liked a bad Jurrasic Park (#3) I am very excited to see another movie in the series! The Jurrasic Parks really make me feel like a kid watching a great adventure movie! Lets see how they do!

Survivor 11 Starts Tonight!

f you’ve watched any TV lately, you’ve most likely seen CBS promotional spots hyping the big twist in the latest edition of “Survivor” (8 p.m.Thursday, Ch. 2).

This being the age of the Internet scoop, however, anyone with access to the Web should be able to find out what the “surprise” of “Survivor: Guatemala” is in under 10 seconds.

It wouldn’t be fair to give the twist away here, but go to the end of this article if you want a few clues.

What we do know, via CBS press releases, is that “two additional surprises” will greet the 16 announced “Survivor” contestants at some point during their Guatemalan sojourn. We also know that former NFL quarterback Gary Hogeboom will be one of the competitors.

And rather than unfolding on a beach, this edition of the program will take place in the Guatemalan jungle. Contestants will live and plot among “the ancient Mayan ruins and ceremonial sites (some as many as 2,000 years old),” according to CBS.

Given the change of scenery and the fact that “Survivor,” the network granddaddy of reality television, has proved adept at reinventing itself as the years go by, this 11th edition of the show likely will prove just as addictive as the rest.

Now — Spoiler alert! Don’t read this if you don’t want to know! — here are a few clues as to the big “Survivor” secret: It’s interesting that CBS’ own press release lists 16 contestants for “Survivor: Guatemala.” In recent seasons, there have been up to 18 or 20 competitors.

As for the “two additional surprises,” could they be, as several reality-TV Web sites have speculated and CBS’ own promos indicate, a couple of folks familiar to “Survivor” fans? We’ll just have to watch to find out.

– CBS alreay spilled the beans and said they are having two x survivor contestants!

DreamWorks Announces Madagascar 2

With Madagascar producing $500 million-dollar wet dreams for Jeffrey Katzenberg, the DreamWorks Animation CEO announced today – get ready for a shocker – that the studio will indeed produce a sequel to what’s become its most successful original movie ever. EVER!

Returning to their roles as a lion, a zebra and a hippo (what, no wardrobe?) will be Ben Stiller, Chris Rock and Jada Pinkett Smith. Along with what’s expected to be a plethora of sequels, DreamWorks will give the Madagascar penguins their own direct-to-video release as well as a ten-minute short to be shown before the upcoming Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were Rabbit. Though there’s still no word on whether or not the penguins will see any profits off the DVD, Stiller and gang were officially spotted on the street today high-fiving imaginary dollar signs floating above their heads.

Mighty Mouse Cave In

Yea, ok it happened! I DID NOT get the new ipod nano YET, but I did cave in and buy the Apple Mighty Mouse, the first time I finally saw it in stock! I have to admit, I went in to take a peek at the nano, which is truly amazing and is now on the top of my list for Santa 🙂 The mouse is pretty amazing! So amazing I am using it on my G5 as well as my PC. The lil ball on the mouse is killer! I love scrolling with it and it is by far the mouse’s best feature! Sure it is NOT wireless, but with all my equipment, I have been having some issues with my wireless mice, so its not bothering me too bad! The right mouse sensors on it took a lil getting used to, but its easy to adapt to. The only problem is my pack or mice now! I must have at least 10 mice around my office 🙁 O well 🙂

Tons O’ New Apple News!

HOLY CRAP! That new ipod looks SO AMAZING! My trigger finger was on my mouse and ready to order, but I held out! I have been waiting and pondering getting a new ipod for some time now! I do have a Second Generation ipod as well as the Shuffle and needed to upgrade to a newer one! So tempting is this new Ipod Nano, but wait as I must, I will hold out till possibly Christmas or mill over getting the 20 or 60 gig color version! Jos just got a Mini for her birthday, but it is a 6 gigger and I think she will still enjoy it for sometime! It was pretty funny how the info came down on Engadget! The site was POUNDED by traffic and I hit refresh a lot to get the info down like every 10 mins! Classic! I never saw that site go down like that, but they were AWESOME on brining the news to the world almost live! As for the Rokr I do use Cingular, but I am not a huge fan of Motorola phones and 100 songs seems kind of weak! The Harry Potter Ipod is funny and I think that will be huge as well! Apple To Break ‘Major News’ Next Week

Video iPod, iTunes mobile – or ‘a new device entirely’…?

People are anticipating a HUGE announcement from Apple on Wednesday! With the mighty mouse coming without any warning, I am really waiting to see what this announcement is! Every time they scooped something big in the past year or so since I have been following the Mac world, I always new what the announcement was going to be. This time I have some idea they will announce like a new Ipod or something, but I can’t wait to see what its gonna be! By the way, I am still loving the Mac, but I have little time to learn a lot of the cool programs!

Apple is preparing a major announcement next week, dropping hints of something as critical to the company’s future as the release of the original iPod in 2001.

The company sent an invitation to reporters on Monday morning for a “special event” being held on 7 September in San Francisco.

The invitation reads: “1,000 songs in your pocket changed everything”, referring to the release of the first 5GB iPod nearly four years ago. “Here we go again.”

As with any planned announcement from Apple, details are scarce and rumours are running rampant. However, some potential clues have emerged.

Record company executives have said recently that Apple has been seeking licences to distribute a wide variety of music videos through the iTunes music store, and that the computer company has told them of plans to unveil an iPod that plays video.

Research firm iSuppli recently reported Samsung Electronics was dedicating a large amount – perhaps as much as 40 per cent – of its flash memory production to Apple, leading to speculation that the Mac maker was preparing a larger-capacity version of its flash-based Shuffle player, or even switching its iPod Mini to a flash-based technology.

Apple sold 6.1 million iPods in its last fiscal quarter, and the company has ridden the demand for the music player to its strongest financial position in years.

Other Apple-linked products are also nearing market release. Motorola has said a long-promised iTunes mobile phone will ship before the end of September. And the latest version of iTunes, version 4.9, contains hidden references to mobile-phone features, adding to the expectation that an iTunes-compatible mobile phone is coming soon.

The Federal Communications Commission has granted regulatory approval for Motorola to start selling one iTunes-capable phone, although it is not certain that handset will be the first model Motorola introduces.

Jupiter Research analyst Michael Gartenberg cautioned against expecting anything too far out of Apple’s existing product line, saying that a video iPod is unlikely. The iTunes-compatible phone is a likely candidate, he said, but added that the company could have surprises in store.

“When it comes to Apple announcements, expectations are often set unrealistically by Apple enthusiasts. But Apple has been known to pull rabbits out of the proverbial hat. It may be a new category of device altogether,” he said.

Springsteen to End Tour in New Jersey

NEW YORK (AP) – Bruce Springsteen wraps up his second solo acoustic tour by going back where it all began: New Jersey.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer plans shows in the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton and the Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, N.J. as part of a 17-city swing. The Garden State shows are the last dates supporting his “Devils & Dust” album; the tour began April 25 in Detroit.

The first show in the third leg of the tour is set for Rochester, N.Y., on Oct. 6. Springsteen, over the course of these shows, has performed 115 songs from his three-decade career.

The three New Jersey shows are scheduled for Nov. 13 in Atlantic City, Nov. 16 at Continental Arena, and Nov. 21 in Trenton.

In a July interview with The Associated Press, Springsteen said he’d enjoyed reinterpreting everything from his new material to reinvented old favorites to rarely heard obscurities.

“I’m in search of how to take the stuff I’ve written and make sure the audience hears it fresh again,” Springsteen said. “It’s been a lot of fun. I’ve enjoyed it.”

The other new dates are set for Hartford, Conn. (Oct 7), Uniondale, N.Y. (Oct. 9), Minneapolis (Oct. 12), Chicago (Oct. 13), Madison, Wis. (Oct. 15), Worcester, Mass. (Oct. 20), Providence (Oct. 21), Richmond (Oct. 24), Boston (Oct. 28), Fort Lauderdale (Nov. 3), Tampa (Nov. 4), Philadelphia (Nov. 8) and Norfolk, Va. (Nov. 11).

All arena shows will be played in spaces modified to a theater format. There was no immediate word on availability of tickets.
